WPC, PVC and SPC Vinyl Flooring Core Compared

When it comes to Vinyl flooring, there are quite a few different types on the market, and it is no easy task to decide which is the best one for your project and needs. Traditional PVC (or LVT) vinyl flooring has been an incredibly popular choice for many years. But, as demand for a different type of flooring has grown and people have begun to expecting more from the products on the market, this means new products with advanced technology are continually being added.

One of those new categories of vinyl flooring that is on the market and takes advantage of these newer technologies is WPC vinyl. But this vinyl is not alone, as SPC has also entered the arena. Here we take a look at, and compare, the cores of the different types of vinyl that are available.

WPC Vinyl Flooring

When it comes to vinyl flooring, WPC, which stands for wood plastic composite, is an engineered vinyl plank that gives you a luxury flooring option for your home. This is a relatively new product on the market, and benefits from its technologically advanced construction. The majority of WPC vinyl options are thicker than SPC vinyl and range in thickness from 5mm to 8mm. WPC flooring benefits from a wood core which makes it softer underfoot than SPC. Additional cushioning effect is offered by the use of a foaming agent which is also used in the core. This flooring is dent resistant but not as resilient as others on the market.

PVC Vinyl Flooring

PVC vinyl has a core that is made up of three separate elements. These are felt, paper and vinyl foam which are then covered with a protective layer. In the case of textured vinyl planks, an inhibitor is often applied. PVC vinyl flooring is the thinnest vinyl flooring at just 4mm or less. This thinness gives it more of a flexibility; however, it is also less forgiving of imperfections in the subfloor. This is a very soft and pliable vinyl due to its construction, so it is much more prone to dents.

SPC Vinyl Flooring

SPC is Latest technology generation which combine the beauty of wood with strength of stone.

SPC flooring, which stands for Stone Plastic Composite, is a luxury flooring option that uses a mixture of limestone and stabilizers at its core to provide a core that is very durable, stable and hardly move. Due to its high stability and strength the SPC (sometime call Rigid core) is ideally suited for use in higher traffic areas such as commercial properties where a more heavy-duty flooring is required as well as extreme conditions areas. For example, while normal LVT will not be suitable for all type of UFH (under floor heating) the SPC will. The stone core of SPC makes it more adaptable to drastic temperature fluctuations, and it is also less prone to movement.

Now you know a little more about the options open to you, you’ll be able to make a more informed choice on which type of flooring is right for you.
